St John Street

The brief comprised the conversion of existing unviable retail space across ground and basement level at 38-42 St John Street to two new showrooms.

The design focused on the removal of poor-quality modern interventions to expose the original Victorian building fabric, as well as the replacement of the existing metalwork and joinery throughout.

New contemporary glazed units flood the space with daylight from both the new shopfronts accessed from street level and the new roof lanterns within the rear lightwell to create a much-improved showcase for prospective retail tenants.

The newly created showrooms will be an appropriate addition to Clerkenwell, given its reputation as the “design quarter” of London.
