SOAS Kiosk

The works at SOAS involve a new gas kiosk located centrally within University of London’s Bloomsbury Campus.

As part of the university’s sustainability agenda, the proposals aim to provide a new energy-efficient gas main to replace existing plant currently located with basement of the Grade II* Listed Philips Building designed by Denys Lasdun in 1970.

The kiosk, nestled within the grounds of the Philips building, inhabits the negative footprint of the cantilevered concrete structure above. Its appearance also draws inspiration from its Brutalist neighbours with its concrete retaining walls and dark metal panelling.

With its considered approach and subtle composition the kiosk, together with enhanced landscaping, pays tribute to this heritage asset.
