Kings Court Phase 1

The existing building now known as King’s Court was originally 6no Victorian townhouses built in 1806. Following extensive remodelling in the 1870’s this block of houses were developed into the Colmer’s Department Store. Today the building has been subdivided with smaller retail units facing the main high street and commercial units on the second and third floors.

Our brief comprised the introduction of two new boutique co-working studios on the second floor to revitalise an existing open plan office overlooking Bath’s main high street.

The existing floor plates have been subdivided to provide co-working studios with a variety of breakout and lounge spaces to suit modern working. Versatile kitchen joinery provides reception space for visitors within each studio in addition to welfare facilities.

Bespoke curtains form flexible meeting space within the studios as well as serving as an acoustic baffle to the street buskers below. A contemporary palette of fern greens fabrics, natural oak and blackened steel present an inviting and modern workspace against the backdrop of this heritage building.
