King Athelstan Primary School

The proposals at King Athelstan Primary School include a new classroom extension, as well as the internal reconfiguration and refurbishment of the existing building.

The approach, due to its central position within the school, was to provide a sympathetic design that responded to its surrounding. Rather than introduce an additional typology to the existing palette, the intention was to provide modern interpretation of the original 1940’s main building.

Subtle cast stone and brick detailing, as well as other architectural elements from this period, enhance the original building, as well as define the new block as a high-quality intervention within the school.
