Coombe Oak
The brief for Coombe Oak Care Home required the expansion of the existing facilities, to accommodate additional residents.
The Care Home provides individual focused care for adults with Learning Difficulties to pursue their chosen lifestyle. Accommodation is designed to facilitate a range of dependency, where relaxation spaces are located between bedrooms to encourage interaction amongst residents.
The modern vernacular of the new building interventions echo elements of the existing, where the form of the bungalow has been adapted in a playful manner. Proposed building materials include brick with slate tiles. These were selected in response to the materiality of the existing buildings and detailed in a more modern vernacular to highlight the difference in the periods of construction.
Internally the primary timber structure will be exposed to provide a warm accent to the contemporary palette of materials within the relaxation spaces.
